Her LifeHarriet Tubman was born in 1819 or 1820, but there is no record of the day she was born. She was born near Bucktown, Maryland. She died on March 10th, 1913 in Auburn NY, at the age of 93. Harriet Tubman was born into slavery. Both of her parents were slaves. She had eight siblings. They were all slaves too. She was working as a housemaid when she turned six years old. By the time she was 12 she was put to work in the fields. She didn't have an opportunity to go to a school. Her parents and the people she worked with taught her everything she needed to know to be a slave. When she had free time she liked spending time with her friends that worked with her in the fields. When she was 12 years old she was in a store when a person that was running away from his slave master. The slave's owner told her to stop him, but she let him go. She was punished by getting hit in the head with a two pound brick. She had always had head problems after that. She was constantly having seizures and passing out. In 1858 Harriet moved to Auburn NY from Bucktown, Maryland. She kept her mom and dad in Ontario, Canada safe from slave catchers. She was married to Nelson Davis and John Tubman. She had one child named Gertie Davis. She broke out of slavery and was official free in 1849. After she was free she wanted to go back and help her friends and family. She spoke with a lot of people and made up a map and homes to go to on their way to freedom. This was called the Underground Railroad.
